Jason Mattick

The Academy is not something that came to Jason overnight, but a vision morphed into reality over time, through many firsthand experiences. Jason is a life-long learner of the sport and takes pride in passing on his most valuable lessons on to others. For the past decade, Jason has been casually teaching the necessary skills of fly fishing to his friends and youth, and many have encouraged him to start his own instruction platform. After working closely with some of the best in the game, consulting with mentors, and gaining the required support from his family and kids, Jason decided it was time to launch THE dream occupying his mind for many years. And so, The Fly Fishing Academy was born!

Teacher at heart

Whether providing key insights in the classroom, on the ski slopes, football field or valuable life lessons on the river, Jason Mattick has always been passionate and focused on educating others.  While refining some of America’s youth in a high/middle school setting for the past 22 years, Jason launched Nevada’s first, and only, fly fishing club.   Over the years, Jason has introduced the art of fly fishing to many, of all ages, and takes great pride seeing many of them spawn into industry Ambassadors and fly fishing savants.

Experience

Jason was introduced to the art of fly fishing at the early age of 13 and there was no turning back. Over the last three decades, he has continuously and meticulously developed his skills to an expert experience level, landing himself on the national platform as a professional angler. Jason enjoyed the privilege of travelling the country, fly fishing daily, and competing against world champions from across the globe in some of the most amazing fisheries. Jason was recognized for his superior skills landing sponsorships with Nature’s Bakery, Spy Optics, Loon Outdoors, Mountain Khakis, Risen Fly Fishing, and Glacier Gloves. He leveraged his connection with high school students to start Nevada’s first, and only, High School Fly Fishing Club. Jason is consistently being invited to teach his wisdom at multiple clinics, including the Wild Sheep Foundation Youth Experience, fly shop demonstrations, and many other youth/women clinics. Jason attributes his talents, knowledge, and success as an angler to the mentors, friends, and coaches along his journey, but most importantly, his Grandpa Fred.
